The Highlanders Super Rugby Trans-Tasman campaign has encountered a major setback with All Black Shannon Frizell in doubt for this weekend’s match against the Waratahs.
The 27-year-old left the field in the final seconds of the Highlanders’ win on Sunday and although it did not appear too serious, Coach Riki Flutey said that Frizell’s availability was uncertain.
He says Frizell injured his ankle from the kickoff and he is not too sure of how serious it is.
The Highlanders are likely to give Frizell every chance to play, but the quick turnaround from Sunday’s game means they may have to shift Hugh Renton to number 6, with Kazuki Himeno starting in the number 8 jersey.
The Highlanders will face the Waratahs at 7.15pm Saturday.
In other matches, the Crusaders will take on Western Force at 7.05pm Friday, the Reds will meet the Blues at 9.45pm Friday, the Brumbies will play the Hurricanes at 9.45pm Saturday and the Chiefs will face the Rebels at 3.35pm Sunday.
