Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre Coordinator, Shamima Ali has once again called for a round-table discussion on domestic violence.
There have been two tragic and unfortunate domestic violence cases in the last 6 days.
A man allegedly knifed his baby daughter while in another incident a man allegedly stabbed his partner.
The accused allegedly injured his daughter with a kitchen knife in the middle of an argument with his wife who had just returned from filing a Domestic Violence Restraining Order against him.
It is alleged the two were separated and the man was entering their home without the wife’s knowledge last Thursday.
The 6-month-old victim has been treated and sent home.
A 26-year-old man from Ra allegedly stabbed his 39-year-old partner at an apartment complex in Suva on Sunday night.
The suspect allegedly stabbed his partner during a drinking party after a heated exchange.
She says these incidents are happening at a time when there is a lot of awareness on such issues as the 16 Days of Activism Against Violence Against Women is taking place.
Ali says people in society need to be held accountable where men need to be taught to respect women.
Ali is urging people to call the toll free number 1560 if they are a victim of domestic violence.
