Fiji Rugby has announced that Fiji Water Flying Fijians Assistant Coach Senirusi Seruvakula will be the acting Head Coach of the team.
FRU Administrator Simione Valenitabua says after considering all the options, the Fiji Rugby Football Union Trust Board has decided to appoint Seruvakula for the top job who will act till January next year.
Valenitabua congratulated Seruvakula on behalf of the FRFUT Board and says he has been evidently knocking at the door for a long time.
He says they believe that Seruvakula deserves the Flying Fijians coaching job after being with the feeder teams for multiple years.
He further says that the Flying Fijians Coach’s position will be advertised soon and confirmed by January next year.
Coming into his new role, Seruvakula has achieved many milestones since joining Fiji Rugby in 2016.
Seruvakula coached the Fijian Warriors in 2016-2019 and won the World Rugby Pacific Challenge Trophy within those years.
He also led the Fijian Drua to the 2017-2019 Australia’s National Rugby Championship and won the title back to back.
Seruvakula was the Assistant coach for the Flying Fijians when they beat the Barbarians in Twickenham back in 2019.
He then went on to guide the Rooster Chicken Fijiana Drua side to the 2022-2023 Super W season winning it back-to-back.
Seruvakula coached the Fijiana 15s side to the Oceania Women's Competition last year which they won and also guided them to the 2022 women’s Rugby World Cup.
Seruvakula thanked the FRFUT Board for believing in him.
He says the role is not an easy one, especially after the quarterfinal finish from the Flying Fijians at the RWC this year and win over tier-one nations such as England and Australia in the past few months.
Seruvakula says with new players coming into the Fijian Drua and having some outstanding performances by the players during the local competitions, he will certainly draw up a depth chart and project the path towards the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia.
