A senior immigration officer charged by FICAC with conspiracy to influence public officials, abuse of office and agent using false document to deceive his principal appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court today.
Kalisi Sakiusa who is the Manager Passport and Citizenship at the Department of Immigration appeared before Magistrate Waleen George with a Chinese National, Ma Li.
Li is charged with conspiracy to influence public officials.
It is alleged that Sakiusa and Li and others on or around 20th May this year conspired together in the production and issuance of two Fiji passports to two non-Fiji citizens with the intent of dishonestly influencing Immigration officers in the exercise of their official duties as public officials.
It is also alleged that Sakiusa with intent to deceive the Fiji government, used a Certificate of Naturalization in respect of which the principal is interest and which contained statements which was false that two non-Fiji citizens had become citizens of Fiji by naturalization, which to his knowledge was intended to mislead his principal.
Sakiusa who resides in Cunningham has been released on bail after he produced two sureties while Li has been released on $2,000 cash bail.
Both have been told to surrender their travel documents while a stop departure order has also been issued.
The matter has been adjourned to the 25th of this month.
