LTA regulations do not require second hand car dealers to have a show room.
This was highlighted by the Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum at the 2016 business forum when he was asked why LTA has not regulated the second hand car dealers as there are few second hand car dealers that do not have showrooms but they are still making money.
Sayed-Khaiyum says the requirement under LTA regulation is such that only new car dealers are required to have showrooms which some argue is not fair as some second hand cars are simply parked outside.
He says they have received a number of complaints regarding second hand car dealers in terms of them not being up front about the quality of their parts.
Sayed-Khaiyum says LTA is now working with a standard set by Japan Export Vehicle Inspection Center Company Limited.
He says all second hand vehicles that will come into Fiji will be certified by the company who will conduct pre-shipment structural and mechanical inspection of used vehicles.
LTA earlier said that the Company will come to Fiji on 15th of next month.
