The villagers of Namatakula in Sigatoka will soon benefit from a nature base seawall that will cost more than $38,000.

This is after a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between signed between the Ministry of Waterways and the British High Commission.

Minister for Waterways, Doctor Mahendra Reddy says like other coastal communities in Fiji, Namatakula Village faces coastal erosion, along with increased impact from extreme weather events, including seawater intrusion and flooding, which becomes a threat to the communities.

Dr.Reddy says therefore, immediate action is needed to address and reduce the impact of coastal inundation that damages the infrastructure and causes threats to the villagers.

The British High Commissioner to Fiji, George Edgar praised the Ministry of Waterways for taking up the lead role in completing the project that would benefit over 300 Fijians by protecting their homes and replenishing their natural resources.
