A new supply chain system based on block-chain technology is being explored by the World Wildlife Fund which is part of an overarching effort to eradicate slave labor and put a stop to illegal fishing that can deplete the tuna population.
Consumers may soon have block-chain technology to thank for its role in tracking tuna with the new partnership between the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), ConsenSys and communications technology partner TraSeable as well as tuna fishing and processing company Sea Quest Fiji.
SeaQuest Fiji is poised to implement a blockchain-based verification system that can record the voyage of tuna from seafaring vessel to grocer, beginning with tagging the catch with radio‑frequency identification e‑tags.
