Attorney General and FijiFirst General Secretary, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has written to National Federation Party Leader, Professor Biman Prasad on what he will do about bigoted statements being made by NFP member and former provisional candidate, Feroz Mohammed.
In his letter which was also sent to the media, Sayed-Khaiyum says that he has already brought this to Professor Prasad’s attention previously, as a matter of courtesy, after one of the Parliamentary sittings.
Sayed-Khaiyum has said to Prasad that it is apparent that he did not do anything the first time and the provisional candidate has continued down this bigoted path with impunity.
The FijiFirst General Secretary says obviously this has happened because of the lack of principled leadership and guardianship.
Sayed-Khaiyum says this is the type of environment Biman Prasad and his candidates are seeking to create in Fiji by actively being involved or accepting it.
Sayed-Khaiyum included an email allegedly sent by Feroz Mohammed to a number of people talking about Sayed-Khaiyum and Faiyaz Koya converting from Islam to Hindu to get votes.
It shows that Mohammed even allegedly sent the email to the Office of the Prime Minister.
The FijiFirst General Secretary further says to Biman Prasad that the unabated continuation of such behavior demonstrates his complicity in trying to create a bigoted and divided Fiji.
Sayed-Khaiyum says the perpetuation of such bigotry can also create an unstable electoral environment.
He then says to Prasad that “your double standards and hypocrisy on such issues have become very apparent.”
Sayed-Khaiyum also says to Prasad that for the sake of our country, he implores Prasad to stop being a political opportunist and to direct all NFP candidates, NFP officials and NFP supporters to immediately stop such divisive and unpatriotic behaviour.
NFP Leader, Biman Prasad says the party advises the Attorney General that he is welcome to take appropriate action on his allegations following the exchange of private emails to a number of individuals by Feroz Mohammed.
Prasad says he has questioned Mohammed and he totally denies that he wrote what Sayed-Khaiyum is alleging.
The NFP Leader says he is not privy to private email exchanges, something that Sayed-Khaiyum should know.
Prasad says Sayed-Khaiyum may be privy to email exchanges on similar issues that Prasad is not aware of.
The NFP Leader says in any case he does not wish to engage in commenting on personal email exchanges on differing views expressed by individuals.
Prasad says that NFP candidates are engaged in campaigning on issues and that is what they will do until the elections.
When contacted by Fijivillage, Feroz Mohammed said that he will comment later.
