Save the Children Fiji will soon establish child clubs in 30 high risk communities as part of their Child-Centered Disaster Risk Reduction Project that was launched today.
CEO of Save the Children Fiji Iris Low-McKenzie says that having the child clubs in these communities will empower children with the knowledge and tools to keep themselves safe and understand how to manage disaster and climate risks.
Low-McKenzie says the child-centered approach means the activities is focused on safeguarding measures for children while also working with them to become informed, engaged and centrally involved in the decision making, planning and implementation of risk reduction and resilience activities within their families, schools and communities.
She says that this is a five year project and they have other activities apart from the child club.
The project is worth $4.5 million.
