Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem is appealing to all Fijians to turn up and cast their vote on election day as the Fiji Elections Office is concerned that the voter turnout for the 2022 General Elections could be as low as 50 percent.
While speaking on the Straight Talk with Vijay Narayan, Saneem says in 2018, they received about 11,000 postal vote applications, and this year there was a drop of 22 percent.
He says with elections day being a public holiday, businesses have agreed to give time for their workers to vote, however, he is concerned that most people will not go straight to their polling stations as was seen in 2018.
The Supervisor is requesting business owners to open half day on election day.
Saneem also stresses that people can only vote at the polling station where their name is listed.
Close to 700,000 ballot papers have been printed by the Fijian Elections Office for the 2022 General Elections.
