Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has stressed that same sex marriage will never be accepted in the country although there is big talk on human rights in Fiji.

Bainimarama highlighted this while officiating at the ground breaking ceremony of the Halaiwalu Subdivision in Raralevu.

He says he was shown one of the posts on facebook which showed that a big faith based organisation has approved same sex marriage. Bainimarama says he is addressing this issue today because he wants Fiji to hear his concern as the leader of the country on same sex marriage.

The Prime Minister says these are talks that are coming from different church groups.

He says this is not what is supposed to be happening in churches.

Meanwhile the Prime Minister also highlighted that the Halaiwalu Subdivision is the fifth such project to assist the iTaukei, and today Nasaqela joins communities in Wairebetia, Vuda, Saweni and Yadua whose land is being developed through this initiative as we speak.

Bainimarama says in Fijian history, they have never seen a programme such as this to be made available to landowners.

He says under this project, five and a half acres of land will be developed to create 17 lots, 16 for residential purposes and one for commercial purpose.

Bainimarama says the total cost of this development is just over two million dollars and government will bear the entire cost.
