Chiefs co-captain Sam Cane is set to miss Saturday’s Super Rugby Pacific quarterfinal against the Waratahs, as he sits out a second week with a knee injury.
But it’s believed the Chiefs are more intent on keeping Cane back for a potential semifinal – which shapes as being against the Crusaders in Christchurch.
In Cane’s absence, fellow All Blacks loosie Luke Jacobson could be an option to again start in the No 7 jersey, having produced a strong display in Lautoka against the Drua.
10-times Super Rugby champions, the Crusaders, will host the Queensland Reds at Orangetheory Stadium in Christchurch at 7.05pm Friday.
The Waratahs will meet the Chiefs at 4.35pm Saturday in the second quarter-final.
The table-topping Blues will play the Highlanders at Eden Park in Auckland at 7.05pm Saturday.
Finally, the last quarter-final is at GIO Stadium in Canberra, Australia, where the Brumbies play the Hurricanes at 9.45 pm Saturday.
