Sairusi Ceinaturaga, who allegedly caused the death of a one-year-old boy in Cunningham last week, has been remanded in custody.

He appeared before Suva Magistrate Krishan Prasad.

Ceinaturaga’s matter has been transferred to the Suva High Court.

Police say they were alerted by medical officials at the CWM Hospital last Thursday, of a case where a boy was pronounced dead on arrival and had visible injuries allegedly due to an assault.

They say upon investigation the accused, who is the victim’s mother’s defacto partner, had an alleged history of being abusive and also allegedly assaulted the victim’s 3-year-old brother, who was found at his home with visible injuries.

Ceinaturaga is charged with one count of murder, one count of assault causing actual bodily harm and one count of act intended to cause grievous harm.

The matter will be called on the 4th of November.
