SODELPA will re‑submit their nominations for candidates to the Fijian Elections Office today after failing to fully meet the requirements under the Electoral act.
SODELPA General Secretary Adi Litia Qionibaravi says that the Fijian Elections Office did not accept SODELPA’s submission of nominations for candidates due to SODELPA failing to submit their nominations with a bank cheque.
Qionibaravi says that their submission was made with a party cheque and they are now working on getting a bank cheque of $1,000 for each candidate to make their submission to the Elections Office tomorrow.
Speaking to Fijivillage, Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem says that when a party comes to hand in their nomination for candidates, they are required to submit together with their nominations a bankers cheque in the sum of $1,000 or a legal tender in the sum of $1,000 for every candidate adding that when SODELPA submitted their nominations for candidates they did not bring a bankers cheque or a legal tender but instead produced a party cheque which is not sufficient.
Saneem says he has advised SODELPA to get the cheque sorted before they can submit it with their full candidate nominations for the general election.
Meanwhile, FijiFirst General Secretary, Aiyaz Sayed‑Khaiyum filed their 51 nominations on Monday afternoon.
Nominations close at 12pm Monday 15th October and the candidate number ball draw is expected to take place Friday 19th October.
