A SODELPA candidate in the 2018 general elections who attacked the judiciary on social media, will spend three months behind bars and has also been ordered to pay a fine of $10,000.
Anirudh Sharma of Lajonia, Labasa was found guilty of contempt of court by the Suva High Court.
The court was told that Sharma had stated on Facebook that it is evident that Khans and Mohammeds are immediately released on bail and there are double standards of justice in the country.
The Attorney General had then taken Sharma to court and filed for an application for an order of committal against Sharma.
High Court Judge Justice Lyone Seneviratne says Sharma’s act of criticizing the judiciary without any valid reason cannot be tolerated.
He says Sharma may have become remorseful after he was found guilty of contempt of court but the damage done to the judiciary cannot be repaired.
