In a bid to make Suva City safer, the City Council is planning to open a kiosk in the market to help homeless people become self-reliant.
While responding to questions about unsafe nightlife in the city, Acting Chief Executive Officer Tevita Boseiwaqa says nobody can deny that the nightlife in Suva is not safe at this moment.
He says the council is planning to revive the city’s nightlife, so they have renovated Ratu Sukuna Park and are now working on Thurston Gardens.
Boseiwaqa says they first have to ensure the location is safe for the public, so they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Fiji Police Force and will be working together before actively promoting a safe nightlife.
He says SCC has visited Thurston Garden with the Minister for Local Government Maciu Nalumisa and have identified several homeless people who can normally be found in the area.
He says they have considered ways to help them, rather than moving them from one place to another.
