Former Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s and Olympic gold medallist coach Ben Ryan has spoken highly of new Fiji Men’s 7s coach Osea Kolinisau and says he is pleased to see Kolinisau coaching the team that is in his heart.
Ryan says Kolinisau was always a player that he thought would be a great coach and a leader too because he is a disciplined player and twins it with his fitness and enjoying the game he loves underpinning his strong beliefs around working together.
He says it is never nice to see someone lose their job so it wasn’t appropriate for him to comment on the recent changes in Fiji 7s coaching team and adds but things move fast in sports.
Ryan says Kolinisau hasn’t had long with the team and says there will be sunshine and showers ahead but he can’t wait to see it all unfold over the next few months.
He says the Fiji Rugby Union along with Peter Mazey have also been smart to bring in former coach Gareth Baber to add his skills and talents to the men’s and women’s programmes and also to have Barrie-Jon Mather as the General Manager.
Ryan says all of these top people need our support to give the teams their best crack at medals in Paris.
He says he will be in London cheering the team on at the HSBC Hong Kong 7s.
The Fiji Men’s 7s team will begin their Hong Kong 7s campaign against Australia at 9.30pm next Friday, they will then take on Canada at 12.33am next Saturday and play France at 5.43pm next Saturday in their final pool match. Meanwhile, the Fijiana 7s side will play Australia at 4.25pm next Friday in their first match, followed by their match against South Africa at 7.12pm next Friday, and they will play Ireland at 3.02pm next Saturday in their final pool match. The Hong Kong 7s will be held from next Friday to Sunday.
