People assisted under the Rural Housing Program from next year will be provided with a water tank which will help them during the prolonged dry weather conditions.
This was highlighted by the Minister for Agriculture, Rural & Maritime Development and National Disaster Management, Inia Seruiratu in parliament today while responding to the President’s speech.
Seruiratu says the water tanks will allow the people to harvest rain water and this is intended to guard against the prolonged dry seasons that we are currently facing.
He adds this year’s budget allocation with the provision of houses for rural communities was doubled from $0.7 million to $1.4 million.
Meanwhile, Seruiratu says the potential of the agriculture sector still remains strong and has much to offer.
