Rotuma will now have a JP serving right on the island.
Terterani Rigamoto was sworn in today with 23 other Justices of Peace, before Chief Justice Anthony Gates.
Rigamoto said his appointment means the people will not have to travel all the way to Suva.
Also sworn in today by Chief Justice Gates were 14 Commissioners of Oath.
Today’s swearing-in also had a good representation of women.
30 year old Ranjani Wati was sworn in as a JP and also a Commissioner of Oath.
Chief Justice Gates said training will continue to help these JP’s and Commissioners of Oaths in the various aspects of their work.
The JP’s induction training begins today.
Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, the Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili and the Heads of Department of the State Institutions of Law were also present during the swearing-in ceremony.
