Maritime islands including Taveuni rely mostly on rain water for their source of water supply and therefore Rotary Pacific Water for Life Foundation will construct a fully fledged water system in Taveuni.
This has been highlighted by the Executive Officer, Neil Maharaj during the launch of the Inclusive Climate Action for Fiji project at the Tanoa Plaza in Suva this morning.
Maharaj says $1.4 million has been provided by the European Union and they have some other core activities aligned where they will train farmers on sustainable land management that will minimise the risk of climate change effects.
He further says the objective of the project is to strengthen the role of civil society organisations and capacities of vulnerable communities in adapting and mitigating adverse effects of climate change through agricultural practice.
Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation CEO, Ivan Fong says the support through the European Union is a testament to their shared commitment to sustainable development and the well-being of Fiji’s vulnerable communities.
Fong says Vodafone ATH will also co-finance this pivotal project through possible partnerships with charity organisations, donors and various stakeholders.
