Police say the road death toll currently stands at 55 compared to 65 for the same period last year.

A woman passed away in a head on collision between a vehicle and  a truck along North Coastal Road in Vacala, Taveuni last Saturday. 

A 56 year old man, his 6 year old son and another man are still admitted in the Taveuni Hospital after sustaining serious injuries in the road accident.

The vehicle was driven by the 56 year old man.

The man allegedly lost control of the vehicle causing it to veer onto the opposite lane and collided with a 12 wheeler truck.

Police say the victim’s second son who is 18 year’s old has claimed to have seen his father dozing off while driving before the accident occurred, however this is still subject to investigation.

The driver of the truck escaped unharmed.
