SODELPA MP Ro Filipe Tuisawau has questioned the logic in paying more than half a million dollars in salary to the CEO of the Land Transport Authority.
Tuisawau stated this while speaking during the debate on the report on the Petition to remove the discriminatory double penalty system, treatment and illegal booking of drivers by LTA officials.
Tuisawau says LTA CEO’s salary should be taken into account when LTA’s expenditure is being looked at as at the end of the day taxpayers are paying for LTA’s expenditure.
Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Jone Usamate then gave a justification on the issue.
Usamate also told parliament that between 2015 and 2018, LTA received a total of 1,100 notifications from courts of driver licence suspended or cancelled
He says people continue to break the law.
