Rewa river has burst its banks

The Divisional Planning Officer Central Sakiusa Ravatu has confirmed that the Rewa river has burst its banks.

Ravatu says the nearest evacuation centre is in Vunivivi, Nausori.

He says if the scenario worsens, everyone residing near the Rewa river and they know that they will be affected from the flood waters are urged to make their way to the closest evacuation centre.

Ravatu says villages have their own evacuation centres.

He also confirms that the Nausori town is not flooded as the Rewa river level is still  ll at 4.4m however he adds that if the level reaches 4.7 or 4.8 metres, than the Nausori town area will be flooded.

A resident of Waidra says the Baulevu road is underwater water and if rain continues than there will be major flooding in the Nausori area.

Meanwhile we have received confirmation that Vuci South road and the Syria Park in Nausori is also flooded.

Situation updates:

Labasa

We have received reports that some places in Labasa was flooded but the flood waters has started to recede.

Our reporter on the ground says places like Benau flats, Bulileka, Korotari and Vunicuicui were flooded but the flood waters has receded.

He says the rain has stopped and the weather is clearing up.

Rakiraki

Divisional Planning Officer West sitiveni Tavaga confirms that flood waters in the Rakiraki town area is still receding.

Tavaga says that it has not rained since mid-night last night which has resulted in the water receding quickly.

He says that all those being sheltered at the five evacuation centres are being advised to make their way to their homes.

Tavaga adds that the Naqoro flats road is still closed.
