Good news for students and teachers of Rewa Secondary School as they will now be able to travel safely to their school after Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro handed over a 23ft fibreglass half cabin boat with a 40hp outboard motor worth $24,000.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Radrodro emphasised the coalition government’s commitment to ensuring that students, especially those in remote and maritime zones, have access to better transportation.
The boat is fully funded by the Ministry of Education, reflecting the government's ongoing support for education.
Radrodro says this boat is a crucial step in improving the quality of transport for students in these areas.
He says the coalition government’s investment in boats and engines is part of a broader effort to provide equal opportunities for all children, regardless of where they live.
The Minister says his ministry continues to prioritise the needs of students in remote areas by investing heavily in providing boats, engines, and transport assistance to ensure every child has access to quality education.
He says fueling and maintenance of the boat will be funded through the Free Education Grant (FEG), while the school’s management will be responsible for ensuring the boat and engine remain in good working condition.
Radrodro adds this initiative is a clear demonstration of the coalition government's commitment to improving education and transport services, making sure that no child is left behind, no matter where they are in Fiji.
