The Tokyo Olympic Games Men's 7s Competition will take place first, running from the 26th to the 28th of July 2021, with the Women's competition following on the 29th to the 31st of July 2021, which sees the gold medal match falling on Saturday.

The organising committee has announced that there will be two sessions on each competition day.

The morning sessions will kick-off at noon and finish at 3pm and the second session will begin at 7:30pm and end at either 10pm or 10:30pm.

The medal matches will take place in the evening sessions.

The organising committee stated that the times have been selected in the interests of player welfare to avoid the peak heat of Japanese summertime and maximise fan atmosphere and engagement.

The competition will be held at the iconic Tokyo Stadium, which proved itself to be an excellent Rugby World Cup 2019 host venue.

21 of the 24 teams have confirmed their places in Tokyo with the remaining two women’s and one men’s places to be decided at an Olympic Repechage event before the qualification deadline.

Fiji is currently the Olympic gold medalist for the Men's Competition while Australia is for the Women's.

The 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games has been postponed to July next year, with the Opening Ceremony set for the 23rd.
