A review of Fiji’s National Disaster Management Plan 1995 and Natural Disaster Management Act 1998 will be table to Cabinet by the Ministry of Disaster Management.
The Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management, Loata Vakacegu says, post Tropical Cyclone Winston it was identified that the Legislation and the plans that the Ministry had in place was put into test.
Vakacegu says only until then, the urgent need to review the legislation became a concern as gaps were identified within the legislation.
She says an important factor discussed during the review is how we will respond well and minimise the risks, fatalities or casualties that we may face or suffer during Disasters.
