Thousands of people living in Samabula, Tamavua, Namadi and Suva are facing water cuts again as there has been another burst at Waimanu Pumping Station.

Two pumps at the Waimanu Pumping Station have been switched off to allow WAF teams to determine the extent of the burst and conduct repairs.

Water Authority of Fiji’s Chief Operating Officer, Seru Soderberg says the affected people may not have water until tomorrow morning as welding works will be done tonight and they expect to restore supply some time tomorrow.

WAF says the burst is a result of the pumps being tripped off which was triggered during a power switch over from their standby Gensets to the power grid after a planned power outage was restored and normalised this morning.

They say during the switch over there was a pressure surge resulting in a burst in the weakest point.

WAF says the affected pumps contribute to over 40% of the flow into the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant so they anticipate that reservoir levels will be affected significantly.
