It was a night of glamour at the Grand Pacific Hotel as the Taipei Trade Office in Fiji celebrated its 113th birthday of the Republic of China (Taiwan).
About 100 guests from various sectors across politics, business, academia, the media community and the Taiwan Alumni Association attended the celebration.
The Taiwan Technical Mission (TTM) in Fiji created a Taiwan map using locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables as well as prepared tokens of Taiwanese fruits for the attendees, highlighting the fruitful partnership of Taiwan's long-standing agricultural cooperation with Fiji.
In his speech, Acting Head Bob Lu pointed out that Taiwan successfully completed its 8th presidential election in January this year, showcasing the vitality of our democracy and freedom, as well as their determination to safeguard sovereignty.
He says in the face of China's authoritarian suppression, Taiwan will continue to work with like-minded countries to uphold international rule of law as well as to promote freedom and openness in the Indo-Pacific region.
Lu says Taiwan will also leverage its advantages in the semiconductor industry and renewable energy to strengthen exchanges and interactions with international friends in the fields of trade, technology, and climate change.
He also mentioned that 10th October is not only the National Day of the Republic of China (Taiwan), but also Fiji's Independence Day.
