While commemorating the lives lost during the World Wars, 31 wreaths were laid at the National Memorial site with two minutes of silence to remember the sacrifices of war veterans who have brought peace to Fiji and the world.
Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, Major General Ro Jone Kalouniwai says that Remembrance Day is when every nation commemorates the lives of their servicemen and women who have passed on during the wars to bring peace and stability to the world.
Major General Kalouniwai says the service men and women will be remembered.
He says Fiji is a very peaceful country and is fortunate that there are people in the community who have tales of their loved ones who have sacrificed their lives for the people of this nation.
He adds that ex-servicemen also understand things happening overseas that they can relate to as it's a blessing to look at the peaceful environment in Fiji.
The Commander says this is something that they continue to strive towards, maintaining peace, open dialogue, and trying to ensure the people of this country understand that things are well, and they will continue to maintain peace to allow the government of the day to do their work.
Ex-servicemen Major Ifereimi Soata says the remembrance day celebration means a sacrifice a personnel can give, cannot be equivalent to any other rather than Christ himself. Major Soata says for him and his family, they will always dedicate the remembrance day to their late grand father who was also a military officer in the Royal New Zealand Navy.
