As the reguregu for the late Speaker of Parliament Dr Jiko Luveni begins today, tributes continue to pour in from across the Pacific for Dr Luveni.
Dr Luveni passed away last Saturday, at the age of 72 after a short illness.
Australia's Foreign Minister, Marise Payne, said in a statement that Dr Luveni had forged a strong path for women across the Pacific.
Payne adds that Dr Luveni will be sorely missed by her colleagues and parliamentary peers across the Pacific.
The New Zealand parliament also posted a condolence letter on Facebook, and the High Commissioners of Australia, New Zealand and France all issued statements describing her as a firm friend.
Fiji footballer Roy Krishna wore a black armband as his Wellington Phoenix team played the Brisbane Roar over the weekend.
Meanwhile, the Office of the Secretary General to Parliament announced that a condolence book in honor of the late Speaker of Parliament will be open for signature at the Parliament Foyer from 10am to 3pm today and from 10am to 1pm tomorrow.
The Office of the Secretary General to Parliament says that everyone is welcome to leave a message of condolence in this book.
Meanwhile, the Department of Legislature has presented its 'ireguregu' to the family of the late Speaker of Parliament, Dr Jiko Luveni, led by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Assistant Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Veena Bhatnagar, Secretary‑General to Parliament Viniana Namosimalua, Deputy Secretary‑General to Parliament Jeanette Emberson and other parliament staff.
The ‘ireguregu’ will continue at the late Speaker’s residence, at 17 Hamilton Beattie Street, Domain, which will begin today, at 10am.
Doctor Jiko Luveni will be laid to rest this Saturday.
