Refurbishment work at the Labasa Hospital has been put on hold due to the hospital's current electrical capacity.
This has been confirmed by the Minister for Health Doctor Atonio Lalabalavu during the debate on the 2024-2025 National Budget.
He says they have brought in Energy Fiji Limited to conduct a comprehensive survey of the hospital and provide a report before any work commences.
While responding to a question by Opposition MP Parveen Bala on the status of Levuka Hospital after it burnt, Dr Lalabalavu says after the damage caused by the fire, one-third of the hospital was condemned while the other two-thirds remained in good condition.
Dr Lalabalavu says donors from overseas are willing to assist in improving the infrastructure.
He says the functional two-thirds of the hospital is now used by environmental health officers.
The Minister says for the mortuary, his Ministry will need to assess the situation and plan the construction of new infrastructure.
He also highlighted that the $200,000 allocated for the Savusavu Hospital is intended for substantial capital work.
