Refrain from responding to hoax messages-Prasad
People have been urged to refrain from responding to text messages where a person is asked to call certain numbers to claim their prizes or collect their financial reward.

Vodafone Fiji Manager Corporate Affairs, Shailendra Prasad said these are hoax messages which are sent with an intention to defraud the subscribers.

The messages read “Urgent, your last chance to win,” or “Call me back, urgent, please” and “finally: you will receive your cheque of $90,000, call for free to see the place of receipt.”

Prasad said these messages have been traced to originate from networks in the European and African region and has advised customers not to call or text any unknown international number unless they are sure that these are genuine messages.

He added that call and SMS to these numbers attract heavy charges and can end phone credit very quickly.
