M-PAiSA has surpassed the $50 million mark for inward remittances for the first time with a total inward remittance of $52.6 Million in December last year.
Head of Vodafone eCommerce and Digital Financial Services, Sailendra Prasad says this is a significant milestone for M-PAiSA breaking the $50 million threshold for remittance in a single month for the first time.
He says it is a very proud moment for the company and their team as they continue to break new boundaries.
Prasad says M-PAiSA continues to build partnerships and onboard new IMT partners in overseas markets to make it easier for the Fijian diaspora around the world to send money back to their families within minutes from anywhere in the word.
Vodafone says given that approximately $80 to $90 million on average, is received each month in personal remittances into the country, the $52.6 million remittance into M-PAiSA for December accounts for approximately 55 to 60 percent of the total personal remittances into the country.
They say they are proud of the contribution M-PAiSA is making to the Fijian economy and as a home-grown service, M-PAiSA has touched the lives of most Fijians in one shape or form over the years.
Vodafone says be it domestic person-to-person money transfer, receiving money sent by relatives from overseas, making cashless payments for shopping, bill payments, online shopping or over the counter payments using M-PAiSA QR, it has revolutionalised the way payments is made in the country.
They say it has also made it very convenient to receive cash assistance from government such as back to school grants, disaster relief payments or social welfare payments and now with M-PAiSA Mastercard, Fijian travelling abroad do not have to run around looking for foreign currency and can simply put money in their M-PAiSA account and use it anywhere in the world.
They say M-PAiSA is a success story that is regularly mentioned by UNCDF as one of those digital transformation initiatives in the region that is helping reach the last mile to serve the financially excluded and the underserved.
Vodafone says it is empowering individuals and communities economically and helping grow the economy through the multiplier effects of faster circulation of money in the economy.
They say it is playing a critical role helping Fiji towards achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals in an all-inclusive journey.
Vodafone is also reminding users never to share the M-PAiSA PIN or OTP sent to their mobile phone with anyone to protect their account from scammers and fraudsters.
They say do not trust unknown callers with your hard-earned money and verify identity of the person calling or messaging you by calling back the person they claim to be on their known personal numbers to avoid being scammed.
