Education is not only about giving children qualification, but is also about developing them so that can become responsible and successful citizens of Fiji.
This was highlighted by the Education Minister Doctor Mahendra Reddy during the launch of the Read to Lead Fiji initiative called Engaging Media to Raise Literacy in Fiji.
Reddy says the this initiative is an excellent programme for schools in Fiji and perfectly complements the Ministry’s literacy guides.
The Chair for the Read to Lead Fiji initiative, Gazala Akbar says the program is designed to teach English to foreign language students and to make students excited about reading which will raise the literacy level.
Akbar says the schools are responding well in this program as literacy has improved, the standard of reading has improved and students’ exam results have also improved.
Akbar says out of the 731 Primary schools in Fiji, 470 schools have received books for the Read to Lead Fiji initiative.
