Read to Lead Fiji is appealing to people to join in their coordinated effort to help equip children who have been severely affected by Tropical Cyclone Winston.

The Chair of Read to Lead Fiji Gazala Akbar said they are gravely concerned with children from devastated areas missing out on school.

She said while parents are busy picking up the pieces and rebuilding their lives, they want children to be in safe, supervised spaces, continuing their education.

Akbar said Read to Lead Fiji’s priority is to put basic school requirements in each child’s hands, without duplicating efforts, so teachers can start teaching.

Those who want to make cash donations or want to provide stationary and books can contact Read to Lead Fiji through their facebook page.

Akbar said those organisations who want to adopt a school should get in touch with Read to Lead Fiji who will then supply statistics to make it easier for people to fundraise for a particular school.

Meanwhile, Minister for Education Dr. Mahendra Reddy and Read to Lead Fiji delivered backpacks for students of Dawasamu District School yesterday.

The backpacks include exercise books, pencils, pens, ruler and maths sets.

They distributed packs in Korovou earlier today.
