Salesi Rayasi scored a double to help the Hurricanes to a hard-fought 29-14 Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific win over the Highlanders at Forsyth Barr Stadium last night.
It took almost 20 minutes for either team to break the shackles, with the visitors striking first through Rayasi.
After more than 15 phases and with the penalty advantage, the Hurricanes found their winger, who showed the ball before riding the collision and stretching for the try.
The Hurricanes asked plenty of the Highlanders' defence in the early stages, with captain Billy Harmon racking up 11 tackles inside the first 18 minutes.
But the visitors found reprieve with their scrum, with All Blacks Ethan de Groot getting the better of his opposite Tyrel Lomax.
In another result, the Blues thrashed the Rebels 54-17.
