President, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, along with First Lady Vilomena Katonivere have congratulated the Fiji Men’s 7s team following their performance in the finals in Paris Olympics Rugby 7s Competition.
Despite a hard-fought match resulting in a 28-7 loss to France in the gold medal game, Ratu Wiliame expressed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the people of Fiji for the team's dedication, sacrifices, and efforts in securing the silver medal.
Ratu Wiliame who watched the final with French President Emmanuel Macron at Stade de France says he is proud of the team’s effort in reaching the finals today.
He says even though we lost to France, all we can do now is move on and always remember that this is another milestone in the player’s rugby career.
The President also acknowledged the unwavering support from families and all Fijians who cheered the team on during the finals.
While speaking on behalf of the players, Fiji Men’s 7s coach Osea Kolinisau thanked the President and all the Fiji supporters for their unwavering support during the past two days of competition.
Minister for Youth and Sports Jese Saukuru also extended his gratitude to the team for their commendable efforts in winning the silver medal.
