The President, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere has applauded the Lau Education Charitable Trust for raising funds to source educational equipment for school-age children in all 45 early childhood centres, 46 primary and 5 secondary schools across all the 13 districts or tikinas, and 72 villages of the remote islands of the Lau Group.
Ratu Wiliame highlighted this while officiating at the charitable organisation’s fundraising dinner at the Vodafone Arena in Suva last night.
He says it is remarkable that the members of the Trust have invested in the implementation of learning, with a strong focus on early childhood and primary education, also valuing the linkages to secondary and tertiary learning.
Ratu Wiliame says the sustainable prosperity and economic growth of our people and our nation is dependent on the collaborative engagement between the Government and the people, working towards a common goal of national unity and nation-building.
He adds while the Government is progressively working towards the provision of quality education, infrastructural development, and heightened resources for rural and maritime communities, it acknowledges the gestures of goodwill that support and contribute to national outcomes.
Between January 2023 and March 2024, the Trust delivered an estimated 35 tonnes of school and associated equipment to schools in Vanuavatu, Moce, Fulaga, Namuka-i-Lau, Nayau, Oneata, Ogea, Vatoa, Ono-i-Lau, Moala, and Matuku.
The President highlighted a few successful projects this year that include repairs to a 40,000-litre water tank, a basic necessity, and proper sanitation for teachers and students of Vanuavatu District School.
He is encouraging sustained collaboration among stakeholders, including the government, civil society, and the private sector to work in tandem toward positively shaping the education landscape of our people.
