The legacy of Ratu Sir Josefa Lalabalavu Vanayaliyali Sukuna’s valuable lessons on values and culture need to be embraced for our young generation to be empowered.
This has been highlighted by Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka during the opening of the Ratu Sukuna Day celebrations at the Albert Park where he says the great chief belongs to us all, including the younger generation, and what he accomplished was for the benefit of everyone.
Rabuka says it is important for the youth of Fiji to adopt the knowledge about Ratu Sukuna as they make a gradual transition into citizenship and adulthood, which transforms them into patriarchs and pillars of our society.
The Prime Minister says we owe it to this great man, we are here not to celebrate the date but to celebrate the person.
He further says that even though he has died, what he did and what he stood for remain, and so does his spirit.
He also acknowledged the decision to celebrate visionary leadership while focusing on education and culture.
He adds Ratu Sukuna could see in our small country the importance to build unity, harmony and cooperation amongst all ethnic groups.
