Ratu Naiqama files High Court constitutional challenge

Leader of Opposition Ro Teimumu Kepa has confirmed that Solicitors Toganivalu & Valenitabua have filed a High Court Constitutional challenge on behalf of Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu.

Ro Teimumu said they are seeking declarations and orders that Parliament and the Speaker acted outside their respective legal powers in citing and suspending Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu for contempt and that Ratu Naiqama’s suspension cease forthwith with immediate effect.

Ro Teimumu Kepa said Ratu Naiqama was exercising his right to seek redress on his 2 year suspension from Parliament in May, which they believe was excessive and inconsistent with the provisions of the Constitution.
