The Minister for Foreign Affairs Ratu Inoke Kubuabola said that Fiji has and will have a foreign policy that pursues our national interest based on openness, equality, principle and leadership.
While delivering his maiden speech in parliament yesterday, Kubuabola said that as Fijians are generous and principled people, our foreign policy should also be generous and principled.
He said that Fiji’s relations with the international community have grown considerably in the past 8 years.
He stressed that even though Fiji is a small and vulnerable country, we must not allow ourselves to be dependent politically, strategically or economically.
He added that Fiji also has an obligation to provide leadership and resources that will help lift the Pacific Region.
Kubuabola also said that Fiji made a decision to forge deeper bilateral relations with countries like the People’s Republic of China and the Russian Federation because of the government’s foreign policy motto of “Friends to All and Enemy to None”.
He also said that Fiji is a responsible and contributing global citizen that is always ready to play its part under the banner of the United Nations.
