Speaker of Parliament, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau has been appointed as the Colonel of the Regiment for the Republic of Fiji Military Forces today.
Ratu Epeli who is also the former Commander of the RFMF and President of Fiji will be taking over from the late Colonel Paul Manueli.
Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, the Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho and some government ministers also attended the event at Queen Elizabeth Barracks in Nabua.
The Colonel of the Regiment was inherited from the Commonwealth.
It is an honorary appointment given to retired former officers who presently take an active interest in the welfare of his/her regiment.
