An 18-year-old woman who was allegedly raped in January, 2014 told the Suva High Court today that the accused had asked her if she knew about Dip Chand and how he had kidnapped three girls before cutting them into pieces and burying them in the mountain.

The 33‑year‑old taxi driver is charged with a count of abduction and three counts of rape.

It is alleged that Umendra Kumar had abducted the 14‑year‑old girl from Nasinu and took her to Nadi, Lautoka and Rakiraki and raped her on three separate days.

The woman who is now 18 broke down in tears a number of times today in the courtroom and revealed that the man had told her that Dip Chand was his good friend and if Chand could do all this, then she just has to think what he can do.

The woman told the court that the man told her this before raping her at his uncle’s house in a settlement in Rakiraki.

The woman stated that she did not want to have sex with the man and was continuously pushing him.

She said she could not escape from the house as she was threatened by the man that he will kill her and that he was not scared of anyone.

The alleged incidents took place on the 11th, 12th and 13th of January 2014.
