The Chief Registrar has taken New Zealand based lawyer, Rajendra Chaudhry to the Independent Legal Services Commission for professional misconduct.
It is alleged that on May 2018, Chaudhry had posted up some comments on facebook which is about three judges in the Court of Appeal.
Chief Registrar, Yohan Liyange believes it is done in an unprofessional manner.
Chaudhry’s lawyer, Anand Singh has made an application to strike out the case as the Fiji courts do not have jurisdiction over Chaudhry as he is in New Zealand and he does not even have a Fiji practicing license.
The Commissioner of the Independent Legal Services Commission, Justice Daniel Goundar then said that they will hear the case again to decide whether the Commission has the power to strike out the matter.
Commissioner Goundar says the case will be adjourned to the 15th of November for further directions.
In 2012, Rajendra Chaudhry was suspended from legal practice after he was found guilty by the Independent Legal Services Commission of one count of professional misconduct and one count of unsatisfactory professional conduct.
Chaudhry was suspended from practice as a legal practitioner in Fiji until 1st March 2017.
