Fiji Water Flying Fijians head coach Simon Raiwalui has confirmed that there have been ongoing discussions of Fiji being part of the Rugby Championship after the Rugby World Cup.
While speaking in the Rugby Pod podcast, Raiwalui says the thing that is important for them now is to not get in front of themselves at the moment.
He says if they look after things such as the results, their rankings, getting their structures right and making sure everything is right at home in terms of administration, then they are putting themselves in the window to get a position if the opportunity comes up.
He adds it is also important that they just look after their short-term goals and the long-term goals will take care of themselves if they do the right thing.
Meanwhile, the Flying Fijians are on the verge of making an appearance in a Rugby World Cup quarter final again after a lapse of 16 years as they will only need 1 point from their final pool game against Portugal next Monday to finish as the second-placed team from pool C.
Fiji will play Portugal at 7am in Toulouse.
In other games coming up this week, New Zealand will play Uruguay at 7am tomorrow while France face Italy at 7am Saturday.
