Opposition Leader, Sitiveni Rabuka says while he commends the Police for the work they are trying to do to fight drugs, he says we need to relook at our whole social structure where we can instill discipline at a very young age.
While responding to the parliamentary statement by the Minister for Defence, Inia Seruiratu on Fighting Crime and War Against Drugs in Fiji, Rabuka says people are aware that there have been so called drug busts in the past however according to him the anticipated follow ups did not take place.
He says if the Minister has to make a statement in parliament on this issue, then we are in dire straits.
Rabuka says this is not criticising the government as it is our joint effort in maintaining national discipline and national respect for law and order.
The SODELPA Leader then went on to talk about rights which has resulted in the degradation of enforcing discipline in our young people in schools.
Rabuka says if we try and instill that sense of discipline using whatever facilities that are available to us in the family, schools, villages, communities and the church, we should not be confronted with an issue as big as this.
He says we are all victims of this imposition of the use of drugs in our communities.
