People’s Alliance Leader, Sitiveni Rabuka

People’s Alliance Leader, Sitiveni Rabuka has raised the question on what use is a government that cannot ensure constant supply of water and electricity to the people of this country.

Rabuka posed the question as he says thousands of Fijians spent last weekend without water in their taps in the greater parts of Nadi and Suva.

He says since Friday, Nadi residents in their thousands were told to store water in buckets and bottles to see them through.

The People’s Alliance Leader says the affected areas in Nadi included Nadi Hospital area, Nadi Airport area, a number of tourism hotels, Air Terminal Services, Sabeto, Nadi Back Road, Sonaisali, Nawaicoba, Uciwai, Votualevu and many more.

Rabuka says the Sayed-Khaiyum/Bainimarama government is constantly boasting about its success in developing Fiji but we see the truth and the reality in the breakdown of the Nadi water supply.

He says it is not the first time this has happened.

Rabuka also claims residents in some areas in Suva had to rely on water trucks, and some of these trucks were seen drawing water from the lake beside Raintree Lodge in Colo-i-Suva.

He says it is a total indictment of the government that after sixteen years and spending billions of dollars it cannot guarantee a regular water supply.

The former Prime Minister says in a sign of things to come, the Water Authority of Fiji is urging customers to conserve and store sufficient water to last them at least two to three days at all times.

He says WAF is also encouraging its customers to invest in buying storage containers or water tanks, so it's clear that consumers are in for more inconvenience.

Rabuka says Sayed-Khaiyum and Bainimarama owe Fijians an apology.

He says the Bainimarama government has had 16 years to improve things for the Fijian people, but we continue to face issues with the interrupted supply of water and also electricity.

We have sent further questions to the People’s Alliance.

We have also sent questions to WAF, Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and Infrastructure Minister Jone Usamate. They are yet to respond.
