SODELPA Leader Sitiveni Rabuka has made a pledge this Diwali that he will deliver true democracy in Fiji, the democracy which is nothing more than light over darkness that people have been denied over the last years.
Rabuka says he has pledged to the Almighty that he will serve all our people with great humility, with equity and with the pledge of ensuring the adherence to the human rights for all.
He says this year, Diwali coincides with our General Elections process and they are once again reminded of triumph over evil.
Rabuka also says it would be remiss of him not to acknowledge once again and in the spirit of Diwali, that our experiment with governance since Independence has not fully delivered us a celebration of triumph of good over evil, purity over impurity, light over darkness.
He says they have also unfortunately witnessed recently the worst aspects of poor governance where politicians who say one thing and then do another or who are models of unprincipled inconsistency and consistent only in adherence to their self‑interest.
He has also paid tribute to the bipartisan spirit of our leaders at Independence, to most warmly acknowledge Hindus as an integral part of our rich web of multi‑cultural and multi‑religious Fiji and in declaring Diwali as a public holiday, to be enjoyed by one and all.
