As the Chinese diaspora celebrates Chinese New Year and the Spring Festival, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says he is excited about the potential to deepen Fiji’s connections and is exploring opportunities to establish direct flights to key airports in China, aiming to bolster the tourism industry.
In his Chinese New Year message, Rabuka says Fiji’s breathtaking landscapes and warm hospitality await Chinese travellers.
He also says this celebration marks the time for renewal of hope and prosperity – values that resonate deeply with the Fijian spirit.
The Prime Minister says they acknowledge with gratitude the invaluable contributions of Chinese families to Fiji and history, particularly in the early colonial era.
Rabuka says their forebearers as vegetable farmers, traders of beach de mer and sandalwood lived in harmony with our rural communities.
He says they not only contributed to our economy, but also enriched our cultural tapestry through intermarriage with Fijian women, raising families that embody the strength of our shared heritage.
Rabuka says as we continue to promote the Pacific as the Ocean of Peace, Fiji remains committed to fostering peace, stability and prosperity in our region.
The Prime Minister says they envision a future where the two nations work hand in hand to achieve sustainable development and shared success.
