It was a noble performance by our FIJI Water Flying Fijians team and I congratulate each of them and all the coaching and support staff for their magnificent victory.
The Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka highlighted this after acknowledging Flying Fijians’ victory over England and commended the teams’ performance including how they sing the national anthem in the iTaukei version of "Meda dau doka" up to the game which was a nail-biter for all the people of Fiji.
Rabuka says the historic and emphatic win by the Flying Fijians was scintillating and has captured the imagination of the people of Fiji and abroad.
He says as part of their build-up to the World Cup which begins August 9th in France, the Waisea Nayacalevu-led team has executed a magnificent victory for the first time in a Test Match.
He adds their brilliant and physical defence on the field embodied their never-say-die competitive spirit, hard work and love for the game.
The Prime Minister says while Fiji heads into their first World Cup pool games next month, the nation will be praying and cheering for them throughout the 51-day tournament.
The Flying Fijians will take on Wales in their first match on Monday 11th September at 7am.
